Dolli bee Wedding Card Project

Dolli bee got married recently, July 19th 2012.

My husband and I got married at our friends cabin in Sedona, Arizona. If you have never been to Sedona I would highly recommend visiting some time. It is beautiful place and I feel  blessed to have had my wedding there. The wedding was small, we only had about 25 guests. However, we had two receptions following one in Mansfield, Ohio where my husband is from and one in Phoenix.

We were blessed to have so may people to celebrate with us and from those people we received the most beautiful wedding cards. Being a stationery designer I of course could not  throw away these cards! I counted and there was about 80 of them.  But what to do with them, what to do with my beautiful wedding cards?

This is what I decided to do:

1st I scanned them all in to the computer. This took awhile. It was a lot of standing and sitting, standing and sitting. After about an hour and a half of this I had finally had them all scanned and saved on to the computer.

2nd I edited the cards in Adobe Lightroom  and gave them a bit higher contrast and saturation so they popped a bit more. The scanner can make images look dull at times, or at least mine does. However, to avoid this step and save some time you should be able to make adjustments in your scanning software.

3rd I made a background in my design  program 24 x 36 inches. I counted out the cards and created tiny boxes for each one. In my design program I can take an image and “stamp” a shape out of it. So I stamped the square shape out of each card. I liked the idea of focusing on a small area of each card for more abstract look. If you don’t have this capability in the program your using you could always crop the images before placing them into the design.

4th I then added my wedding date at the bottom of design.

5th  I added a sepia tone to the whole design to give a more uniform look.

I am looking forward to having this printed on a large canvas!

To create this look I used Lightroom to edit the photos, Indesign for the layout and Photoshop for the finishing look. However, if you don’t have all of these programs you should be able to create a similar look utilizing Photoshop only. Let me know if you have any questions about creating this design and I would be happy to help!
